Realizing the ubiquity of mass-mediated childhood memories, this series questions my unfounded obsession with space exploration while showing the distance from source material. Making paintings from haphazard paper constructions of photocopies, the end result is a re-interpretation of the Beau Idéal attached to classical still lifes and landscapes. In this realm, images of the Space Race act as representations of, and stand-ins for, seminal acts of pioneering and colonization.
